Herold's  Biography

Herold White

Herold White was born into a musical family and was singing before he started school. Born and raised in Hazel, KY, until he was eleven yrs old and moved to Live Oak, FL. He made his first public appearance at the age of 15 with the blue grass group of JIM & JESSE and if there was ever any doubt about what he wanted to do with his life, it disappeared that evening when he heard the roar of the crowd after his performance.
Herold taught himself to play the guitar (on a guitar that Jim & Jesse loaned him) and also played drums in the KAYTON ROBERTS band for a time. (Kayton Roberts went on to be HANK SNOW"S steel guitar player for years)
Herold's first record was released in 1964. It was recorded in Atlanta, GA on the TRUMPET label and was entitled "LONELY STREET" b/w "I HAVE TOLD EVERYONE ABOUT YOU". Both songs were written by Herold.
In 1965 Herold moved to Tampa, FL. While working in a welding shop, he formed his first full time band and named it "HEROLD WHITE and THE COUNTRY MASTERS". They played all around the Tampa Bay area in the evenings. He soon went to work as a D.J. at WYOU radio in Tampa and also opened a recording studio and record shop next to the radio station. The studio was equipped with the latest equipment and Herold did all the engineering himself.
In 1966 he released his second recording entitled "RAGGEDY ANN" b/w "SOMEBODY ELSE"S HUSBAND" on his own label MASTER RECORDS. He and his band became the staff band for WYOU and played for all the big shows the radio station promoted in and around Tampa Bay. On one of the shows, he had MINNIE PEARL and STEVE SPURRIER (who later became the University of Florida's football coach) singing the old ROGER MILLER song CHUG- A-LUG.
It was in Tampa where Herold met AUDREY WILLIAMS (HANK JR'S mother). She sent him to Nashville to see BUDDY LEE, who was the head of BUDDY LEE ATTRACTIONS. In 1967 they started booking Herold and The Country Masters on shows around the country. That same year, Herold was booked on the K-BAR-T award show in Nashville and won THE MOST CONGENIAL award for that
year.
In 1968, Herold and his band became one of the regular show groups at THE GOLDEN NUGGET in LAS VEGAS and they moved there. For the next four years they were booked as THE HEROLD WHITE SHOW from THE GOLDEN NUGGET IN LAS VEGAS.
In 1972, Herold started recording at the BUCK OWENS studio in BAKERSFIELD, CA WITH THE BUCKAROO'S playing on the sessions under the direction of BOB MORRIS from BLUE BOOK MUSIC.
The first release was "FILL THIS HEART WITH LOVE" (written by Herold) b/w "THIS UGLY MUG OF MINE" both records made it to the top 10 in more that 35 markets across the country.
Later in 1972, Herold moved to Moline, Illinois where he managed a night club, THE HARMONY LOUNGE. THE HEROLD WHITE SHOW brought country music to the Quad Cities in a big way and for the next one and one half years, it was standing room only at the Harmony Lounge.
In 1974, Herold opened his own night club on the Mississippi River in Bettendorf, Iowa, across the river from Moline. And, in 1975 he built a large night club from the ground up that had seating for 600 people and had a recording studio in the same building. In 1980, he opened a third club in Iowa. They were all called MAVERICK LOUNGE'S.
In 1984, Herold sold the clubs and moved his family back to Tampa, FL and went back to one of his favorite clubs, the JOYLAND in St. Petersburg, FL.
In 1990 he moved back to his home town where he now lives, "WAY DOWN UPON THE SUWANNEE RIVER". He works with different bands and does Karaoke shows for clubs and events around North Florida. Recently (2007) he built a new recording studio (MAVERICK PRODUCTIONS) with the latest in digital equipment, where he produces and engineers all recordings. After more than 50 years, music continues to be a big part of Herold White's life. He enjoys hearing from his friends and fans so do not hesitate to e-mail him at:
